Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta Law School, Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta Institute of Professional Studies (ADGIPS), Delhi organized several academic competitions on 19 February 2026 as part of its Annual Fest “Utkarsh 2026” at Block I of the institution. The events aimed to promote intellectual engagement, creativity, and analytical thinking among students of B.A. LL.B (H) and B.B.A. LL.B (H). The competitions included a Case Analysis Competition, Poster Making Competition, Legal Quiz Competition (Lex Certamen – 2026), and a Debate Competition, all of which witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members and were conducted smoothly under the guidance of faculty coordinators Ms. Pronika Singh and Ms. Kajal.
The Case Analysis Competition was conducted under the theme “MINDCRAFT: Compete, Create & Conquer”. The case selected for analysis was Kesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala, AIR 1973 SC 1461, one of the most significant constitutional cases in India that established the Basic Structure Doctrine. Participants examined the facts, legal issues, and constitutional principles involved in the judgment and presented their analyses by applying relevant legal reasoning. The competition provided students with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of constitutional law and judicial interpretation. The winners of the competition were Anjal David (BALLB H, 4th Year) – First Position, Manthan Mittal (BBALLB H, 2nd Year) – Second Position, and Anjali Upadhyay (BBALLB H, 2nd Year) – Third Position.
A Poster Making Competition on the theme “Core Values of the Indian Constitution” was organized at 11:00 AM to encourage students to creatively express their understanding of constitutional ideals and democratic principles. The event saw participation from 10 students, with 15 total attendees including faculty members and audience. Students depicted themes such as justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, secularism, fundamental rights and duties, and the rule of law through creative visual representations. The posters were evaluated on the basis of relevance to theme, creativity, clarity of message, artistic presentation, and overall impact. Ms. Garima Singh secured the First Position, while Ms. Tuba secured the Second Position, and all participants were awarded certificates of appreciation.
The law school also organized Lex Certamen – 2026, the first Intra-College Legal Quiz Competition, aimed at strengthening legal awareness and encouraging academic excellence among students. The quiz consisted of three rounds including an elimination round, buzzer round, and grand finale, covering topics such as constitutional provisions, landmark judgments, amendments, and contemporary legal developments. A total of five teams participated in the competition. After an engaging series of rounds, Team A consisting of Mr. Manthan Mittal and Mr. Anjal emerged as the winners with 56 marks, while Team B comprising Ms. Garima and Mr. Ashwin secured the runner-up position with 54 marks. Participation certificates were awarded to all teams.
In addition, a Debate Competition was organized on the topic “Marital Rape: Is it a Crime or Not?” to encourage students to deliberate on an important contemporary legal and social issue. The debate was conducted in Oxford-style format (For vs. Against) and witnessed participation from 13 students of BA LL.B and BBA LL.B. Each participant presented arguments for four minutes followed by a rebuttal round, demonstrating research, analytical thinking, and public speaking skills. The competition was judged by Prof. (Dr.) Jogiram Sharma, Principal; Ms. Umang, Assistant Professor; and Ms. Ayushi Sarkar, Assistant Professor, and was moderated by Ms. Ayushi Mathur, Assistant Professor. After evaluation based on content, clarity, confidence, legal understanding, and presentation skills, Pankhir secured the First Position, Aastha Mishra secured the Second Position, and Tuba secured the Third Position.
Overall, the first day of Utkarsh 2026 was highly successful and marked by enthusiastic participation and vibrant energy among students and faculty members. The competitions provided valuable opportunities for students to showcase their talents, strengthen their legal knowledge, and develop essential skills such as critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and creativity. The events reflected the institution’s commitment to promoting holistic legal education, constitutional awareness, and experiential learning, and concluded with the announcement of results and distribution of certificates.
