The Centre of Legal Education (CLE), ADGIPS organized a Guest Lecture on 04 November 2025 (Tuesday) at the Moot Court Room (CLE), Block 1, ADGIPS, Delhi, as part of the Induction Programme 2025. The session was delivered by Adv. Abhinav Shokeen, Delhi High Court, and was coordinated by Dr. Dhruv, Assistant Professor, CLE, Ms. Pronika Singh, Assistant Professor, CLE, and Ms. Muskan Chandok, Assistant Professor, CLE.
The lecture was conducted on the topic “Evolution of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Indian Legal Fraternity” with the objective of introducing newly admitted students to the concept, development, and significance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in the Indian legal system. The session focused on various forms of ADR, including arbitration, mediation, conciliation, and negotiation, and highlighted their increasing importance in reducing the burden on courts and ensuring the delivery of speedy justice.
During the lecture, Adv. Abhinav Shokeen discussed the historical development of ADR in India, tracing its roots from traditional community-based dispute resolution practices to the contemporary statutory framework established under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. He explained the growing relevance of ADR in resolving commercial, civil, and family disputes and emphasized the gradual transition from adversarial litigation to more collaborative and consensual methods of dispute settlement.
The speaker also encouraged students to develop key professional skills such as negotiation, communication, and problem-solving, which are essential for effective dispute resolution and successful legal practice. The session was highly interactive, enabling students to actively engage with the speaker and gain practical insights into ADR as an emerging and promising area in the legal profession.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the Guest Speaker, institutional authorities, faculty members, and students for their valuable participation and contribution to the success of the event.
