The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) of Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta Law School, in collaboration with Delhi Police, successfully organized a Self-Defence Workshop for female students on 30th March 2026. The workshop was designed as a proactive initiative to empower students by equipping them with practical self-defence techniques, enhancing awareness of personal safety, and educating them about their legal rights. It commenced with an introduction highlighting the importance of awareness, confidence, and presence of mind in preventing unsafe situations. Participants received hands-on training in techniques to escape common physical threats such as wrist holds, chokeholds, and grabs, along with methods to maintain balance and respond effectively during emergencies. The session also emphasized situational awareness, encouraging students to recognize warning signs, trust their instincts, and adopt preventive strategies in daily life.
An important segment focused on the innovative use of everyday objects like bags, keys, and mobile phones as tools for self-defence, demonstrating that preparedness and quick thinking are crucial in critical situations. The workshop also included a comprehensive legal awareness session, where participants were informed about women’s rights, relevant laws on harassment and violence, and the procedures for seeking help, including filing complaints and accessing emergency services. Conducted by experienced Delhi Police personnel, the workshop was highly interactive, with live demonstrations, mock drills, and active student participation, making the learning process engaging and practical. Overall, the initiative significantly enhanced students’ confidence, preparedness, and sense of security, while fostering a culture of awareness, self-reliance, and mutual support within the institution, thereby reinforcing its commitment to creating a safe and empowering academic environment for women.
