he Centre for Legal Education (CLE), Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta Institute of Professional Studies, organized a Workshop on Moot Court Competition on 9 October 2025 at 10:00 AM onwards in Room No. 1007, Block 1 for students of B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) (1st to 4th Year). The workshop was convened by Ms. Anjanee Goel and Ms. Muskan Grover, Assistant Professors, CLE, and aimed at providing students with both theoretical understanding and practical exposure to moot court practices.
The session introduced students to the concept, structure, and significance of moot court competitions in legal education. The fundamentals of mooting were explained by senior students Garima Singh (BBA LL.B. Hons.) and Ashwin (BA LL.B. Hons.), who discussed the difference between moot courts and real courts and highlighted the role of mooting in developing analytical thinking, legal reasoning, and advocacy skills.
Students were guided on how to analyze moot propositions, identify relevant facts, frame legal issues, and understand the perspectives of both appellants and respondents. The workshop also covered legal research methods, use of reliable sources and databases, citation of authorities, and the distinction between binding precedents and persuasive authorities.
A significant part of the workshop focused on memorial drafting, where students were introduced to the standard structure of memorials, including jurisdiction, statement of facts, issues raised, arguments, and prayer. Practical guidance was also provided on drafting clear, logical, and persuasive arguments.
The session further emphasized oral advocacy and courtroom etiquette, including professional conduct, proper addressing of judges, effective argument presentation, time management, and responding confidently to questions from the bench. An interactive discussion allowed students to clarify doubts regarding moot court participation, team preparation, and competition strategies.
The workshop proved to be an enriching learning experience, enhancing students’ understanding of moot court competitions, legal research, memorial drafting, and oral advocacy. It motivated students to actively participate in mooting activities and helped strengthen essential professional skills required in the legal field
